Beach clean-ups have a twofold objective. On the one hand, we remove the maximum amount of waste from the coast, to prevent it from causing damage to marine fauna. This is the case of ghost nets or microplastics, which cause millions of deaths a year by suffocation or strangulation.
On the other hand, beach clean-ups are an awareness-raising tool. Not only for the people who participate, who usually already have a certain degree of awareness. But also for the environment and those people who have an impact through the networks and media, giving visibility to a problem that goes unnoticed by many people.
