"Chasing Coral" a NETFLIX documentary you can't miss

"Chasing Coral" is a Netflix original documentary that seeks to bring visibility to the world about a major environmental catastrophe taking place under the sea; the bleaching of corals, and subsequently the death of reefs and all the biodiversity that lives in one of the most important ecosystems on the planet.

Why watch "Chasing Coral"?

"Chasing Coral" will awaken your passion for the oceans even more by discovering a new world underwater. Even though it is a scientific documentary, it will connect with you and raise your awareness.

The importance of corals on land

Did you know that corals are a founding species? This Netflix documentary will give you a broader and clearer view of the important role that corals play in the oceans. At minute 12:23 Dr. Ruth Gates (Marine Biologist, expert on reefs and their ecosystems) will explain what corals are and how these complex and extraordinary organisms function in a very well structured way, so that it is easy to understand even for those unfamiliar with them.

What is "Chasing Coral" about?

Richard Verse, a publicist and great lover of the oceans, affected by the deterioration of coral reefs, decided to find a way to make an impact and raise awareness of the serious problem we face as a result of global warming. But this was not going to be an easy task as the phenomenon was taking place under the sea. If they were trees, people would be alarmed to see 80% of the forests turn white and see that something strange was happening, but this was not the case.

The difficulty of this expedition was not just a matter of showing what was going on underwater; it was also a matter of getting people to see the evolution of coral bleaching periods. With simple pictures of bleached corals, people were not able to see the problem. They just saw white corals.

Throughout the documentary we see the development of the expedition, made up of scientists and amateurs, and the difficulties they face in order toshow the world the great threat to coral reefs caused by rising sea temperatures. Despite the adversities they encounter, they finally achieve their goal, although unfortunately, this is accompanied by a bitter and unexpected result.

There is still hope for the reefs

This documentary has managed to capture the attention of thousands of marine biologists and sea lovers, marking a before and after in the fight to combat climate change and its effects on the oceans. More and more studies, actions and measures are being taken, giving some hope for the survival of corals. That is why we encourage you to watch "Chasing Coral" and join us in doing your bit to protect and conserve the oceans.
